Project Summary
When Discord approached us to liven up their newly-renovated San Francisco HQ in advance of their staff coming back to work post-COVID, we knew it wasn't going to be like any other project.
Discord started as a chat app for gamers, but in the last few years has grown beyond the gaming world into a major communication platform for everyone. The company prides itself on honoring the wild diversity of its staff and users, and wanted their physical space to reflect this inclusive perspective as well as their playful approach to work.
Before tackling the office as a whole, we wanted to get something installed quickly, in advance of the Discord employees' return. We needed something that would speak to the fresh new brand approach created by Discord's amazing art team, so we started looking for illustrators with an eye for color and playfulness who were willing to work fast and at such a huge scale.
Luckily, we found Lolly in the UK – we worked with their tireless team to create this series of illustrations, which we printed in-house to ensure quality. The result is a stop-you-in-your-tracks mural, just past the entrance to Discord. Just opposite this, we installed a series of custom window films, printed in white on a subtle blurring material to preserve privacy in each of the rooms. Lastly, we peppered a few little illustrations throughout the space, to tie the whole thing together and hint at the immersive designs to come.
