Based on a stunning design by Hanson LA Architecture, Muse engineered and fabricated this striking sand dune-inspired wall for Circa LA, a new residential project located in downtown Los Angeles.
The wall is constructed of solid walnut and is over 70 feet long. It was meticulously modeled in 3D, then carved on a 5-axis CNC machine, and finished by hand. In total, the project took 4 months to engineer and fabricate. The wall brings a sense of flow and movement to the lobby, while tying the space together.

Project Summary
In 2019, Muse took on this fully immersive design project when we were approached by Crunchyroll, one of the world’s largest anime streaming and content companies, to reimagine their headquarters in San Francisco. The sprawling 80,000 square-foot space, which is divided into 4 floors, was to feature fully immersive and authentic Japanese and anime-inspired themed spaces throughout.
We knew we couldn’t create the authentic Japanese experience without first immersing ourselves in the country’s culture, architecture, and style - so we took a company trip to Japan to prepare.
Entering the building, you walk through a doorway and leave downtown San Francisco, only to find yourself in the heart of Tokyo. The first floor is a fully immersive Tokyo experience. On the upper floors, you’ll find conference rooms, kitchenettes, and specialty areas - all connecting you back to the roots of anime in Japan.
We collaborated with KBM Hogue throughout the building to find seamless and engaging furniture solutions for these unique spaces. We also collaborated with SenovvA on building-wide AV installations. It was a pleasure to bring this slice of Japan to life in the heart of San Francisco.

Project Summary
Crunchyroll is a leading anime streaming service and production company that champions the art and culture of anime to a passionate community of fans around the world. It was necessary to design an office that was reflective of those qualities: fun, colorful, story-based, and at times, over-the-top.
Our primary motivation for Crunchyroll Dallas was to create an environment that supports and inspires its employees while providing a meaningful home to which they could return after a global pandemic. The existing 80,000 sq. ft. space was a clean but nondescript corporate office space in a newly built office park on the outskirts of Dallas. It was functional but reflected none of the personality of a creative animation company where every employee spends their day in fan tees surrounded by the paraphernalia of manga and anime. We began our process with hours of research into the world of anime - its history, development, common themes, iconic titles, and the artistic process. We also needed to understand the core functionality of the space, anchored by a strong functional core that includes the welcome lobby and the recording studios where foreign language dubbing and editing occurs. Here, employees would be stepping through a portal into the world of ink, paint, sound, and magic.
It was essential to us that every space feel thoughtfully conceived and distinct from anywhere else in the office; like watching an anime, the office reveals itself as one moves through it and the story progresses, each new chapter contributing to an understanding of a larger and more cohesive space. We created a distinct vision for each space, each rooted in a different aspect of anime and the elements. The furniture, artwork, scenic treatments, color palettes, materials, lighting, and plant design all subscribe to this vision. Environmental graphics support this vision by breaking the boundaries of the office walls while providing the necessary backdrop for spatial organization and identity.

This kinetic sculpture is based on the idea of an orrery, a mechanical model that depicts the movements of celestial bodies. Humans have been making these devices for thousands of years – the oldest known orrery dates back to c. 125 BCE. Early orreries relied on clockwork and hand-cut gears to drive the planets around their orbits; ours uses embedded computing and digital fabrication to illustrate the complexity and interconnectedness of the Googleverse.

This Google lounge space was inspired by luxury “bush camps” in remote parts of Botswana, Tanzania and South Africa. These camps are designed to maximize opportunities for wildlife viewing by providing simple but elegant accommodations deep in the heart of the wilderness.
Muse & Co. worked to source the perfect vintage Land Rover to anchor the space, and figured out how to airlift it into the room via the window. We then built a palette of harmonious and natural materials around the truck – including an oasis’s worth of living greenery – to evoke the ambiance of sunset on the Savannah. Specialty work included a hand-painted floor pattern, custom digitally-painted wall mural, a bespoke safari tent, and hand-made stonework planters.

Having recently completed the transformation of their 80,000 square foot office space into an immersive Japanese streetscape, the goal here was to set the stage and provide a tantalizing glimpse of the full experience waiting behind the lobby doors. Entering the lobb, you walk through a portal - the torii gates, inspired by the iconic gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha, are a nod to the 4th floor Kyoto-themed conference room. The hustle of San Francisco quiets as you walk through a lush stone and moss garden, presided over by a large statue of Hime, Cruncyroll’s mascot.

Project Summary
When Discord approached us to liven up their newly-renovated San Francisco HQ in advance of their staff coming back to work post-COVID, we knew it wasn't going to be like any other project.
Discord started as a chat app for gamers, but in the last few years has grown beyond the gaming world into a major communication platform for everyone. The company prides itself on honoring the wild diversity of its staff and users, and wanted their physical space to reflect this inclusive perspective as well as their playful approach to work.
Before tackling the office as a whole, we wanted to get something installed quickly, in advance of the Discord employees' return. We needed something that would speak to the fresh new brand approach created by Discord's amazing art team, so we started looking for illustrators with an eye for color and playfulness who were willing to work fast and at such a huge scale.
Luckily, we found Lolly in the UK – we worked with their tireless team to create this series of illustrations, which we printed in-house to ensure quality. The result is a stop-you-in-your-tracks mural, just past the entrance to Discord. Just opposite this, we installed a series of custom window films, printed in white on a subtle blurring material to preserve privacy in each of the rooms. Lastly, we peppered a few little illustrations throughout the space, to tie the whole thing together and hint at the immersive designs to come.

Project Summary
In 2022, Muse & Co. was approached by a major life sciences real estate developer to engineer and fabricate some central elements for the lobby space of their San Francisco offices. Our team got to work on an oversized aluminum sliding door, as well as a uniquely cantilevered reception desk.
The sliding door and reception desk serve as anchoring pieces for the space, creating a focal point for those who enter the building. The door, which required precision engineering to ensure smooth operation, features a sanded element that was precision-etched into its powder coated aluminum surface. The front desk is comprised of a uniquely layered plywood base and a steel top that brings contrast and elegance to the piece. The cantilevering was a challenging but ultimately rewarding, design feature.
